(自分では)良くある話だけれど、
xterm から他の機械に入っている時に 行が上らなくなってしまい (つまり LF が無効になる)、 その結果、 画面の一番最後に到達した後は、 同じ(画面の一番下の)行に表示されてしまうので、結局、 最後に表示されたものしか目に入らない ような状態になってしまうことがある。stty sane では直らない。 きょう、ふと、別の正常な窓での stty -a と比べていたら正常 -clocal 問題 clocalとなっていたので stty -clocal したら直った。

man stty を見ると
clocal Assume a line without modem control. -clocal Assume a line with modem control.となっている。modem から入った特別の場合かな(心当りあり) ＠ 読んでいただいた方から:
日記を読んでいただいた方から「これは一行スクロール領域」になっているのが原因
ではないか、xterm の端末初期化で直るのでは、というお便りをいただいた。
上には書かなかったが、端末初期化では直らなかったので、-clocal では、 と思ったし、実際、それで直ったのだけれど、その後、同じ条件で stty -a をしたところ、次のように 「clocal になっているが問題ない」場合に遭遇した。

また上には書いていないが、この話は全て screen -x で入っている。
上に書いた日に問題があって、一度直して、それから、接続が切れて、また screen -x で
入り直したところ、問題がなく、しかも clocal になっている(戻っている)
ということで、やや不思議ではあります (この項 2010/06/09 追記)。
一応書いておくと、 目の前の機械 A -> (xterm) -> (ssh) -> 別の機械 B -> (screen -x) -> 別の機械 B -> (telnet) -> 別の機械 C -> (モデム線) -> 別の機械 Dという接続になっていて 別の機械 C 以外は全て NetBSD である。 このうち A が異常終了して再起動して ssh と screen -x したら、がこの追記の話。 ( つっこみ )
