次のような文章を書いたのだけれど、 おそらく作者の方は、この日記を読んで下さっていると 思うので、(まずは)ここだけに書いて見ます。

I am trying to package emacs-current on Mac OS X. The first problem I had was on Mac OS X, /etc/mk.conf is not included implicitly.

OK, then it seems to me, the 10th line of options.mk,

 10 PKG_SUGGESTED_OPTIONS=  dbus svg x11 xft2

this seems to enable (implicitly)

 31 ### Any of the "toolkit" options implies "x11".
 32 ###
 33 .if !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mgtk) || !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mmotif) 
 				     || !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mxaw) || !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mxft2)
 34 .  if empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mx11)
 35 PKG_OPTIONS+=           x11
 36 .  endif
 37 .endif

and then the line

 51 .if !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mx11)

is always active and the line

106 .elif !empty(PKG_OPTIONS:Mnextstep)

is never looked up. To make sure above observation is correct, I had changed the line to

 10 PKG_SUGGESTED_OPTIONS=

and

% env PKG_OPTIONS.emacs_current=nextstep bmake configure

will make the nextstep option enabled.

Am I missing some point ? Yes I may be wrong that even without the line 31-37, still x11 is enabled and the line 106 is never looked up.

Or (anyway), is this the intent of the author of this options.mk ?
